Artist statement
The work is an attempt of recalling a memory, reconstructing events of my own life and of others‘. Archiving and processing the passing of time. Half-forgotten memories are brought into a visual translation. The leftovers, the nostalgia, the itch in your palm.
Something happens; it becomes a memory. Years later I bring it into my hands, in the shape of a fabric, and I fold and stitch and process the memory through handcraft. Working with archival and found photographs, shared memories are translated into tactile forms through textiles.
Coming from the Hungarian minority in Slovakia, influenced by post-communist visual culture and a multicultural upbringing, I explore nostalgia, identity, and the passage of time. I look for a shared humanity in the stories I collect, stories that are not important in our history, but they are important for our humanity.
